Halo: Spartan Assault coming to Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 in July

Halo: Spartan Assault, a new Halo game, is launching exclusively for Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 devices from July.

Available only for Windows 8 devices, Halo: Spartan Assault will touch down in July, bringing a top down gaming experience with the familiar Halo twangs.

“Set between the events of Halo 3 and Halo 4, Halo: Spartan Assault is a new chapter of award-winning Halo universe that explores the first missions of the Spartan Ops program and dives deeper in the backstory of Human-Covenant Wars,” reads the Halo Waypoint website.

Players can chose to play as Commander Sarah Palmer or Spartan Davis who are both stationed on the UNSC Infinity to fight against the Covenant forces.

The game includes 25 missions within a single-player campaign and as the player makes their way through these levels, they will unlock new Halo 4 and Waypoint content.

With a touch of the arcade about it, Halo: Spartan Assault enables players to customise the way they play the game with a variety of loadouts and still have access to classic Halo vehicles like the Wraith and Warthog.

Players move about with the left stick and control the firing direction with the right analog stick, while grenades and other commands like vehicle entry are done with a tap on the touchscreen.

The game offers Weekly Challenges and Halo: Spartan Assault specific achievements and medals to obtain in-game and offers a wealth of in-app content to purchase.

The mobile Halo game will have cloud game saves for players utilising multiple Windows 8 devices, like the Nokia Lumia 920 and the Surface Pro for example, so they can pick up and play from when they last left off.

Gamers can also chose the way they play, using an Xbox 360 controller, mouse and keyboard, or the touchscreen of their Windows 8 or Windows Phone 8 device.

Available from July 2013, Halo: Spartan Assault can be downloaded from the Windows Store for $6.99 (£4.60), although no official UK pricing has yet been released.
