Halo digital feature project coming this year from Ridley Scott

Microsoft has confirmed that a Halo “digital feature project” will be released later this year produced by Ridley Scott.

Despite rumours of a potential Halo movie circulating for many a year, it looks like Microsoft are going for a “digital feature project” based on the Halo series instead.

The feature will be released later this year with Ridley Scott as executive producer alongside David Zucker, Scott Free TV President. Sergio Mimica-Gezzan of Battlestar Galactica and Heroes fame will direct the Halo feature.

The digital feature is currently in the works at 343 Industries, Xbox Entertainment Studios and Scott’s Scott Free TV.

We’re as confused as you by the digital feature and what it might entail, especially as Microsoft is being particularly vague about the details.

However, The Wrap suggests the project will be of similar ilk to Machinima’s Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn and therefore only be released online or outside of a cinema release anyway.

What’s also interesting is that it looks like the feature may not star Master Chief, but instead follow the story of a “surgically-enhanced super solider” during the 26th Century.

Microsoft has been quick to stress that this digital project is entirely different to the Steven Spielberg TV series announced at E3 2013.

“[The digital feature is] completely separate from the premium Halo television series executive produced by Steven Spielberg, which is still on track”.

Microsoft is strongly expected to announce more details on the Halo digital feature at E3 2014 in June.
