Halo 5 needs a 9GB day one patch before you can play online

Microsoft and 343 Industries have revealed that Halo 5 requires a 9GB Day One patch before you can play online.

Anyone looking forward to diving into a fresh Halo multiplayer experience on October 27, will actually have to wait a little longer.

Halo 5: Guardians will require a 9GB Day One patch before the game’s online multiplayer mode will function correctly.

Apparently, without the patch gamers won’t even be able to play the Halo 5 multiplayer at all.

Halo 5 Studio Director Josh Holmes explained that the patch would include some “map content”.

The average 22.8Mbps UK internet speed means that the 9GB patch will take about an hour to download. But, if you’ve got a slower connection speed, you could be waiting hours until you’re ready to get invovled in the Halo 5 multiplayer.

However, it is possible to download the patch before the game’s release, which means even if you buy a physical copy of the game you can prepare it before October 27.

If you’ve pre-ordered a digital copy of the game, the patch will come bundled into the download. That brings the total size of the game to around 55GB though. Xbox One owners can pre-download the game so it’s ready to go on October 27 too, if they’ve bought it directly from the Xbox Store.

Halo 5 is launching exclusively for Xbox One on October 27.
