The Half Life 3 UK release date could be with us sooner than expected as a newly leaked PDF suggests the eagerly awaited first-person shooter will be officially unveiled at gamescom.

Appearing on the official gamescom website, the PDF of games set to be showcased at the Cologne based show has suggested the much anticipated title from developer Valve will make a surprise first appearance at the gaming convention later this week.

A title five years in the making, Half Life 3 is to follow-on from its hugely successful predecessors and was previously tipped to launch back in 2007 under the moniker of Half Life 2: Episode 3. With gamers once again set to take on the form of Dr. Gordon Freeman in a bid to stave off repeated attacks from futuristic enemies, developer Valve looks set to return to its Half Life roots having recently launched two hugely successful titles in the spin-off Portal series.

Whilst Valve has yet to officially confirm plans to unveil the latest addition to the Half Life gaming franchise, recently leaked Half Life 3 artwork has suggested the title will be set in colder climes with characters shown wearing winter gear.

If officially unveiled during this week’s gamescom expo, it is unlikely that a Half Life 3 UK release date will be held later this year with the expected PS3 and Xbox 360 title tipped to make it to market in early 2013.

Adding further fuel to the fire, T3 has reported games magazine Game Informer will go to print late for the first time in its history to accommodate a large-scale new gaming announcement set to be made during gamescom, a title now firmly believed to be the latest Half Life offering.
