H1Z1 announced for PS4 with open beta coming next month
Daybreak Games has announced that H1Z1 is coming to PS4 with an open beta period set to take place on May 22, 2018.
Described by its creators as “the original Battle Royale experience,” H1Z1 will join juggernauts such as Fortnite and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds on console.
“H1Z1 on PS4 is true battle royale mayhem. We have reimagined the game for PlayStation 4 and have designed it to accentuate the essentials of battle royale that make the genre so exciting to watch and play,” said H1Z1 Producer Terrence Yee. “We have added key gameplay differentiators to keep the game frantic and fun — an action shooter’s dream of fast-paced battle royale.”
The control scheme and user interface have been overhauled for console so players will find it more accessible to play. Loot collection, inventory management and movement are also simplified.

Daybreak Games has said that H1Z1 has been specially optimised for Sony platforms and will run at 60fps on PS4 Pro. No word yet on a Xbox One release, though.
Starting today until May 22, players can choose to purchase a H1Z1 bundle for $29.99 which contains in-game cosmetic items and an exclusive dynamic theme alongside the game itself. UK pricing is yet to be confirmed.
Earning 7/10, H1Z1 is an enjoyable battle royale experience that has really come into its own upon its full release:
“Whether it’s enough to draw those crowds back to Daybreak and the progenitor of battle royale games is a different story, but H1Z1 deserves a lot of credit for the strides it’s taken towards polishing an inherently rough and ready genre.”
