Guitar Hero band getting back together for Xbox One and PS4?

Guitar Hero

Activision is preparing to take the Guitar Hero franchise on tour again with a new version coming this year for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, reports on Tuesday claimed.

Kotaku sources claim a brand new, next-gen title - the first in five years - will be announced at E3 this May ahead of a late 2015 release.

Those sources say the game will take a much more realistic approach, ditching the cartoonish band and crowd members. Also, a new range of guitar peripherals are likely to couple the arrival of the revamped title, which is the first since Warriors of Rock arrived, and flopped, in September 2010.

It's not clear at this stage whether Activision is planning to launch the full band kit associated with later releases or whether it'll revert to the guitar-only set-up of the original games.

Given the Neversoft and RedOctane studios have closed since the launch of the last game, Activision has presumably found a new developer for the new instalment.

While refusing to confirm the report, Amazon didn’t exactly deny a new version of the classic franchise was in the offing.

A spokesperson for publisher Activision said: "We don't comment on rumour or speculation, but have previously said, that as one of the most beloved entertainment franchises, we would only bring Guitar Hero back if we developed the right innovations to usher the franchise into the new generation of gaming."
