Rockstar Games has offered further details on GTA Online ahead of its release date next week.

Confirming that GTA Online will feature microtransactions, Rockstar Games has outlined further details about the incoming GTA 5 multiplayer experience.

The addition of real world currency purchases in GTA Online was discovered earlier this week in a secret image contained within one of the in-game GTA 5 websites, with UK pricing leaked as ranging between £1.99 and £13.49.

“You can either quickly accumulate cash through profitable activities like knocking over armoured cars, winning street races, doing stick-ups or a host of other cash-making endeavours – or if you’re the completely instant gratification type, you can choose to buy denominations of GTA$. You will have the option to purchase GTA$ through the in-game Store,” explains Rockstar.

The GTA 5 developer has yet to offer any official pricing details for the GTA Online microtransactions, but it seems that the purchases aren’t necessary to help boost your character’s reputation.

“The game and its economy have been designed and balanced for the vast majority of players who will not buy extra cash. There is no in-game paywall and nothing that should disrupt the balance of the game. You don’t have to spend real money to attain the cars, guns, clothes, flash and style of a high-roller in Los Santos, but can if you wish to get them a little quicker.”

It also seems that GTA Online will be an entirely separate entity from the main GTA 5 storyline, which means cash, clothing and other content will not carry over into the multiplayer experience.

“The economy is balanced differently from the single play economy, and cash earned in one cannot be taken over to the other. Most players will earn cash much faster Online than in Story Mode.”

Rockstar Games has also announced some of the new content that will be added to GTA Online within the first few weeks of launch.

You will be able to create your own races, deathmatches and capture the flag games within GTA Online and Rockstar will release a Beach Bum pack that features four new beach vehicles, 300 items of leisurewear and two weapons.

The update will also include co-op heist missions that rely on your teamwork to execute successfully.

Arriving within the first few weeks of the October 1 GTA Online release date, the update will be free to download.
