GTA 5 release date delays suggest PS4 launch likely says analyst

Luke Johnson by

Following yesterday’s GTA 5 release date confirmation that revealed the game would be delayed, industry analysts have suggested that the new September 17 GTA 5 release date could result in the title hitting next-generation consoles.

Whilst the GTA 5 release date delays have caused much backlash from expectant consumers, Doug Creutz, an analyst with Cowen & Company has suggested that the reshuffled arrival could mean that publisher Take-Two Interactive “may have plans to eventually publish GTA V on the next set of consoles.”

Speaking on the potential implications of the delayed September 17 GTA 5 release date, Creutz said: "In and of itself, the delay of the game from FQ1 to FQ2 would not normally mean any significant change to expected FY14 financial results.”

He added: "However there is an issue in that we expect the next generation of Xbox and/or PlayStation consoles to launch in the December quarter. We think the closer proximity of GTA V to the next cycle could, at the margin, impact lifetime sales of the title, though we believe that a title of GTA's stature will still be a major seller regardless.

"We think there also could be some impact on the legs of likely GTA V downloadable content as the next-gen installed base increases through 2014. However, we suspect Take-Two may have plans to eventually publish GTA V on the next set of consoles in some form to offset this."

Whilst Creutz has suggested the delayed GTA 5 release date could see the eagerly awaited title hit next-gen consoles, earlier today Sony teased an upcoming PS4 release date, with a newly confirmed February 20 PlayStation event expected to see the Xbox 720 rival enter the realms of reality.

Although the GTA 5 release date has been confirmed only for the existing Xbox 360 and PS3, Rockstar has revealed that it is still addressing the possibilities of bringing the latest addition to the iconic Grand Theft Auto franchise to more platforms.

Claiming that “everything else is up for consideration,” Dan Houser, Vice President of Rockstar Games recently declared: “We are a third-party publisher. We're not Nintendo, we're not Sony, we're not Microsoft. We love all of them in different ways. But we can do what we want wherever there's the appropriate business opportunity and chance to find a market.”

He added: “If that's on Apple we put something on Apple. Wherever it might be. I think that's the fun in what we do. We see ourselves as a content company that uses technology. We don't make it; we use it to make the most fun stuff.”

Confirming the GTA 5 release date delays, developer Rockstar yesterday released a statement announcing: “Today, we have an official release date to share with you. Grand Theft Auto V will arrive in stores on September 17, 2013.”

Apologising for the GTA 5 release date delays, the developer added: “We know this is about four months later than originally planned and we know that this short delay will come as a disappointment to many of you, but, trust us, it will be worth the extra time.

“GTA V is a massively ambitious and complex game and it simply needs a little more polish to be of the standard we and, more importantly, you require.”

The ps4/Xbox 720 won't be out until December or 2014 so this article is a load of rubbish. They won't wait another 2 months or so letting everyone of their fans down AGAIN.

why wait for the next gen console while we have PC??

February 1, 2013, 8:56 pm

I don't want to spend £100 on a new console for a game we were promised would come out in Spring. We at least deserve gameplay trailers or a walkthrough!

GTA games are released when they are ready and we should all be glad of that.

The game is already available for pre-order for PS3 & X-Box 360... even if they make it compatible with new consols it wil still be Available 9.17.13 for XBox 360 & PS3

It's worth it... it's not their fault there was an error which made them work more on it. You people have gone through some lifetime - so you can at least wait for another seven months.

Whoever keeps saying GTA 5 is going to be on the new consoles is in idiot. How could I pre-order a game for a system that is yet to be announced? And even if I did get a PS4 version of it, I'm not buying the system for another year or two. Shut these "analysts" the hell up and just wait for the new release date already.

I pre ordered it for ps3 not ps4 what the fuck

Well i look forward to the PC version, but i am also interested in PS4 so.. good news for me.

I just hope R* have 50-100 player online with editable game modes, Cops n Robbers on San Andreas multiplayer with 100+ players on PC is great, on GTA V this could be huge.. i just hope R* don't screw it up like they did with IV.

If those gameplay screen shots are next gen consoles they don't look that great. I'm really second guessing this game because of no PC release.

I think its a bit low but a smart move by take two as they will miss out on millions by not bringing out on the new console. yeah everybody would by the game on release but as new dlc content is available, alot of gamers will be moving on to the new console. But i will not be happy if they bring the whole game out on ps4/xbox 720, but release a poor version out on ps3/xbox 360. remember what happened with tom clancys ghost recon anyone?

Why cant anybody read this article properly? It's not saying your going to have to buy a new console just to play GTA 5 when it comes out, it is likely that it could be on PS4 as it own version maybe even a launch title which would be a massive selling point for it, but its still coming out on PS3 and 360 like it always has been. Little dissapointed its delay for that long though but still better this way than with bugs and glitches, way too many games are released too early (movie tie ins probably the worst offenders) and the games end up being terrible, no way would Rockstar allow something like that to happen to what could well be the greatest game ever made, so start saving the pennies kids!

February 2, 2013, 10:22 pm

are you all going to believe this lmao GTA V is on xbox 360 and ps3 typical ps3 noobs moaning about getting a new console haha is it because the ps4 will likely be over £400 lmao and then you will still be robbed when hackers just get straight into the network lmao

February 2, 2013, 10:26 pm

you really think the ps4 will cost £100 lmao more like over £300+ and the xbox will be around £200

Lee 'Moz' Maurice

February 3, 2013, 12:53 am

Sounds like they don't want the backlash developers have been getting lately for releasing "unfinished" games.

A poor version out on PS3 and 360? This could be applied to the likes of PS3 games being released on PS2 with severely reduced features, but we know how capable and powerful the PS3 and 360 are, so I'm sure if they do release a version for both current consoles and the next-gen consoles, it'll still be far better than "poor".
