GTA 5 PS4 release will not be available at launch

Following the recent PS4 launch event, industry analysts have suggested that although the game will hit the console at some point, a GTA 5 PS4 release will not be available at launch.

Suggesting that the next Grand Theft Auto instalment will launch on the PS4 “eventually,” Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter has claimed that, despite being set to hit PS3 and Xbox 360 console’s ahead of the PS4’s arrival, a GTA 5 PS4 release will not be available when the next-gen console hits retailers.

Speaking on when eager gamers will be able to snap up a GTA 5 PS4 release, Pachter predicted: “Eventually. Not at launch.”

Expanding on his predication, and suggesting Rockstar is not developing fast enough to hit the PS4 launch window, the Wedbush analyst added: “If you go back to the PlayStation 3 E3, the 06 E3, they showed Red Dead Redemption. What year did that bad boy come out? 2010.

“It only took four years, and it was shown, it was shown during a launch event. So that’s about the pace I think Rockstar is on.”

Taking an underhand dig at the developer, Pachter added: “I think Rockstar will have a game before the PS5.”

With a PS3 and Xbox 360 GTA 5 release date have recently been confirmed for September 17, some months after its previously listed ‘spring 2013’ arrival, the eagerly awaited addition to the GTA franchise looks set to hit retailers just weeks ahead of the confirmed “holiday 2013” PS4 release date.

Far from the first time a GTA 5 PS4 release has been mooted, previous predictions have also suggested that the title will not be available for the PS4 when the next-gen gamer first hits retailers, with Rockstar and parent company Take-Two said to “have plans to eventually publish GTA V on the next set of consoles.”

Speaking following the GTA 5 release date confirmation, Cowen & Company analyst Doug Creutz stated: "In and of itself, the delay of the game from FQ1 to FQ2 would not normally mean any significant change to expected FY14 financial results.”

He added: "However there is an issue in that we expect the next generation of Xbox and/or PlayStation consoles to launch in the December quarter. We think the closer proximity of GTA V to the next cycle could, at the margin, impact lifetime sales of the title, though we believe that a title of GTA's stature will still be a major seller regardless.

"We think there also could be some impact on the legs of likely GTA V downloadable content as the next-gen installed base increases through 2014. However, we suspect Take-Two may have plans to eventually publish GTA V on the next set of consoles in some form to offset this."

Would the availability of a GTA 5 PS4 launch tempt you into splashing out on Sony’s next-gen console or are you happy to get the game on current-generation hardware? Let us know via the TrustedReviews Twitter and Facebook feeds or through the comment boxes below.

Want it to release on ps3 and x360 on time .... delaying gta 5 for next gen consoles is blackmailing gamers to force buy the new consoles ..GTA 5 matters more than new consoles ...current gen consoles are not that bad either

Oh good I beg to god that they will skip ps3 and go for the ps4.. I mean Gta games comes out every 5 year or more, it's not fair that the greatest game in several years to come will be on a crappy stoneage console with 720p as resolution and a 15-30fps gameplay... I mean I even feel games the be unplayable on pc if it's below 50fps.. So PLEASE FOR FUCK SAKE BRING IT ON PS4 When it launches....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is more of a personal bias, but I'd like to see GTA V come out on next-gen consoles effective immediately since I don't, at this current time, own a XBox360 or PS3 console. And what with the next-gen consoles due to be out sometime this year, I'd rather put my money into buying a next-gen console than pay money down for a current console platform which could eventually die out in a few years.

It's simple. They release on the current machines because there are millions of them out there. Not even the best console launch ever could compete in terms of potential units sold. Then you can ship an updated version, maybe with the dlc included, down the line for the new machines once there are more of them under people's TVs.

I sure hope they will bring it to the PS4, all the people that are not planning on buying a next gen console should get the game on time on the PS3 or Xbox360. But like other people have said, a GTA game is not a thing that happens every year so GTA5 should come to the next gen consoles so we can enjoy the game for the following years, if I buy it on the PS3 it will be played a lot less by myself because my PS4 will be running overtime and I will not be playing a lot of PS3 anymore. I'm saving up so I can buy a PS4 on launch so that means for me that I can't buy all the games I want in the next 6 months. I just hope they will do it because I love GTA, if that means I have to wait 6 more months so I can choose between a PS3 version or a PS4 version so be it, I will wait a extra 6 months so I can enjoy GTA5 on my PS4 in all it's glory. I just hope they will be clear about this on the upcoming E3 in june.

as Rockstar did not realy confirmd that GTAV is not coming for next gen, i think that it is coming. if it was not, rockstar would already have killed the roumor.

Why do websites keep quoting this Pachter guy. He continually states the obvious like he's some kind of mystic. Anyone with any sense and an interest in gaming can work out what he says long before he even opens his mouth. And when he does stick his neck out with something new, he always gets it wrong ...lol

GTAV wasn't delayed for next gen ports. I reckon it was delayed to add the features that were previously denied, such as buying property etc and to squeeze more out of the current gen optimisation after people claimed the screenshots were next gen. They are current gen. Current gen PC. Which is PS4. A deception, not a lie.

Making a next gen port does not force you to buy it or buy a next gen console. Just stay with current gen if that's what you want. But don't deny others who want to move on and play GTAV on next gen in full quality just because you don't want to be tempted and have no will power.

Rockstar will sell it to the masses first on current gen to make a huge profit. Next gen ports are hiding in the wings ready to be released six months after launch when the sales start to drop. They would love to sell it to you twice. That's business like it or not. If you don't like it, wait for the PS4 version like me. You will end up with a PS4 anyway so why fight it. You moved up to PS3. People always moan about having to move up, but when they look back they are always glad they upgraded. Exciting times are ahead so embrace it and have fun :)
