GTA 5 PC release played down by Rockstar

Luke Johnson

Publisher Rockstar has once again played down reports of an upcoming GTA 5 PC release, stating that it is focussed only on PS3 and Xbox 360.

Discussing the possibility of a GTA 5 PC release later this year with fans via its official Newswire page, a Rockstar spokesperson has stated that the company is “currently focused on Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game.”

Having this week unveiled a trio of new GTA 5 trailers, each one focussing on one of the game’s three lead protagonists, Rockstar has repeatedly come under scrutiny for what platforms the latest Grand Theft Auto instalment will support, with delays to the game putting the launch in the midst of the expected PS4 and Xbox 720 arrival.

"We're currently focused on Xbox 360 and PS3 version of the game and don't have any details to share about the possibility of a PC version at this time,” the Rockstar spokesperson stated.

Although not completely ruling out the possibility of a future GTA 5 PC release, Rockstar previously teased that it would consider all avenues for the its next flagship title, hinting that GTA 5 could launch for everything from the core consoles and Wii U to the likes of iPhone and Android devices.

Stating that “everything else is up for consideration,” Dan Houser, Vice President of Rockstar Games last year said: “We are a third-party publisher. We're not Nintendo, we're not Sony, we're not Microsoft. We love all of them in different ways. But we can do what we want wherever there's the appropriate business opportunity and chance to find a market.”

He added: “If that's on Apple we put something on Apple. Wherever it might be. I think that's the fun in what we do. We see ourselves as a content company that uses technology. We don't make it; we use it to make the most fun stuff.”

While the title is currently unconfirmed for a PC based arrival, recent GTA 5 PC release rumours suggested systems would require a hefty 16GB of RAM in order to fully run the Rockstar published offering.

While GTA 5 continues to grab headlines, it is far from the year’s only big gaming release, for a roundup of what’s still to come, take a look at of best games of 2013 feature.

16GB of RAM but runs on a 360 and PS3. Have Rockstar heard of optimization?

I didn't really enjoy GTA 4 on 360, rented it on ps3 and didn't care for the controls or game play. I wait till it finial came out on PC and I play it till this day. To bad Max Pain 3 might be the last rockstar game I ever play.

It's also funny cause I don't think console has many people online like PC version does, I mean I still play GTA Vice City online and still there is number of people on. It's a shame RockStar isn't seeing that rather then just $$$

All of my rage! no PC release. They're doubling up on this consoles sales and then the new consoles sales and then they'll release PC. Rockstar are fuckheads and I used to have so much respect for them

R* dont know anything about optimisation - just look how badly GTA IV was optimized.

Consoles suck ass... PC's are upgradable, not integrated, better graphics, more options for controls allowing keyboard or any gamepad you wish, hell there is even drivers to use Wii game controller on PC. PC have more freedom and are not stuck in a walled garden. only consoles I ever owned was a Pong machine in 1979, Atari 2600 and an original Nintendo, after that I stayed with PC gaming. As PC games totally surpassed console ability for the longest, plus I learned to write my own games and not be stuck with a game only machine with a pc I could work, educate, game, and entertain all with 1 machine.

A PC is way more expensive than a xbox or ps3 especially if you are going to need a 16gb of ram, they mostly cost over 1 thousand pound/dollars

I've always loved Rockstar, But im not pulling my Xbox out of the box of old hardware i have in my garage. I didn't build a 1700 dollar gaming rig to play a game as big as a GTA game on 9 year old Technology. Anybody here ever play Gta 4 on an xbox vs PC, it can only handle like 12 cars on screen at any given time. So how you can do Los Angeles without 100+ cars on screen at all times, bothers me, needless to say i wont be buying GTA 5 as much as disappointing as it is to me as someone who grew up with GTA since GTA 2

only if you are an idiot and buy it oem style u can get decent i7 mother board bundles or barebone in case bundles for under 400 add a 200 quid gpu and ure flying (that would kill a ps3 in specs ) and for a ps3 like pc u can get that for under 250 now a 9800 gt with dual core is better just not with crappy ported games but ull play crysis on 30 fps or more on high skyrim on high with 4 xaa and 8 times aliasing and thats about twice as pretty as the ps3 skyrims and ps3 is equal to med settings with no aa on another note ive had roughly 3 ps3's due to them overheating / dieing same problem with the ps2 before yet my pc is still runing strong aver 8 years and alot of upgrades ( you cant beat the fact you can open them up and upgrade cooling and specs as you get some money spare) Current specs I5 8 gb ram win 7 prof 650ti boost main card 650 ti physics card << wich beats even the proposed ps4 specs

depends what you class as working great. if you mean by bearly working and stressing you console to its limits and having a frame rate of below 25 fps in most cases with super cut out textures , lighting and shadows then yeah it works great.
