The GTA 5 PC release petition now has nearly 600,000 signatures of support to its name, growing rapidly since the game was released two weeks ago.
So far, the game has only been released on Xbox 360 and PS3 and Rockstar has been very adamant that there are no plans to release GTA 5 for PC or either of the next-generation consoles.
However, this hasn’t stopped PC gamers urging the developer to release the title for PC and the petition is gaining support at an astonishing rate.
The PC version of GTA 4 arrived seven months after the game was released on Xbox 360 and PS3 in April 2008, so PC gamers may have a bit of a wait if a GTA 5 PC edition is ever launched.
In July a job listing for Rockstar Leeds was asking for a graphics programmer to help bring the developer’s latest titles to the PC. This could have been talking about Red Dead Redemption as well as GTA 5, but seeing as Rockstar’s Wild West adventure title is already three years old it would make more sense for the job to be GTA 5 related.
Rockstar quickly removed the listing as soon as it was picked up by the media.
“We don’t have anything to share about the possibility of a next-gen or a PC platform release at this time and we are completely focused on delivering the best possible experience for the consoles people have right now,” said Rockstar Games during a Q&A session in the same month.
In August, Nvidia tipped a GTA 5 PC release date for some time this autumn as part of its Q2 2014 earnings call.
“Gamers are preparing their [PC] systems for a strong roster of games coming this fall, including blockbuster franchises, such as Call of Duty: Ghosts, Grand Theft Auto 5 and Assassin’s Creed 4.”
