GTA 5 has been crowned the best selling game of 2013, with the Take-Two Interactive published title shifting a staggering 32.5 million units.

Confirmed during the gaming giant’s quarterly profits call last night, Take-Two has revealed that as well as setting records as the world’s biggest entertainment release, GTA 5 took annual sales accolades in 2013, despite not hitting retailers until September.

“Grand Theft Auto V finished as the best-selling video game of 2013,” an official Take-Two spokesperson said of the Rockstar developed game.

They added: “To date, Grand Theft Auto V has sold-in more than 32.5 million units.”

Speaking on the GTA 5 success and company’s quarterly growth, Strauss Zelnick, Take-Two’s Chairman and CEO stated: “Take-Two’s business continued to outperform expectations significantly during the fiscal third quarter.

“Our results were driven by robust holiday demand for Grand Theft Auto V, the franchise record-breaking launch of NBA 2K14, the successful release of WWE 2K14, and strong growth in digitally-delivered revenues led by Grand Theft Auto Online.

“Take-Two was the top video game publisher of 2013, according to the NPD Group, underscoring our positive momentum over the past year.”

Last week retailers suggested that a GTA 5 PC release was on the cards, although neither Rockstar nor Take-Two have yet to offer any indication as to when the record-breaking title will be expanded beyond its Xbox 360 and PS3 roots.

that’s a lot of units
sold, and a ton of $$$ heading to the bank. I guess you only have to make a
game once a decade when you can sell like that.
