Gran Turismo 7 could be the first big-name game for PlayStation VR

Sony wants the long-awaited Gran Turismo 7 racing simulator for PS4 to support the company’s forthcoming PlayStation VR headset.

Shuhei Yoshida, the worldwide president of Sony’s gaming arm, says the company’s tests have shown racing games to be among those that translate well into the VR experience.

“Many trial tests we’ve been doing, some genres just work fine,” he told Eurogamer.

“One of those genres is racing games. So when Gran Turismo comes out on PS4, I’d like to see it support PlayStation VR, yeah.”

Sony has not yet announced when Gran Turismo 7 will be released for the PS4, despite the game being confirmed more than two years ago.

Perhaps the firm is deliberately waiting for the VR developments to be complete before announcing any more news on the game?

PlayStation VR, formerly known as Project Morpheus, will go on sale in the first half of 2016, Sony announced last month.

So far, a number of games have been announced for the platform, but none of them fit the bill of a AAA storied franchise like Gran Turismo.
