A Gran Turismo 7 release has been confirmed, with series creator Kazunori Yamauchi announcing that the game will launch for the PS4 ‘in a year or two’.
With Gran Turismo 6 having been announced earlier this year, the latest instalment will be made available exclusively for PS3 consoles, despite heading to retailers in the weeks following the eagerly awaited PS4 release date.
Although Yamauchi has been quick to deny gamers’ calls for a GT6 release on Sony’s next-gen gamer, the Gran Turismo godfather has revealed that the franchise will not be missing from the PS4 for long.
"The PlayStation 4 game which we'll likely call GT7 will be done in about a year or two, I think," Yamauchi is reported to have said in a recent interview.
Although announcing a PS4 bound Gran Turismo 6 release is on the horizon, Yamauchi was keen to stress that there is no rush, claiming that the PS3 is still a strong enough console to entice gamers to new releases.
"The PlayStation 4's large memory size is a unique trait, but in terms of CPU performance, the PS3's Cell chip, while difficult to handle, is really capable," he said. "They both have different advantages. Besides, I think the online community aspect, one of the most fun parts of GT, doesn't have anything to do with the platform."
Although Yamauchi has suggested a Gran Turismo 7 release date is just “a year or two” away, fans of the series will know better than to take the developer’s dates as gospel.
With Gran Turismo 5 originally demoed back in 2006, the racing sim missed its planned 2008 release date in spectacular style, not making it to retailers and gamers’ consoles until the last few weeks of 2010. A Gran Turismo 6 release date has been set for December 3.
