Gran Turismo 6 unveiling teased as event invites are issued

Gran Turismo 6 could be with us sooner than expected, with event invites being issues to an upcoming Gran Turismo event which will focus on the franchise’s ‘future’.

Celebrating the 15th anniversary of the hugely popular and ultra-realistic racing simulator, Sony has promised details on the series’ future at the event which is set to be held next week.

Making the announcement via an event invite issued to the media, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) stated: “Join us to celebrate 15 years of Gran Turismo, and discover exciting announcements about its future.

With the event to be held at the famous Silverstone circuit next Wednesday, May 15, it has been suggested, Sony could unveil the eagerly awaited Gran Turismo 6 or, potentially a more likely option, a reworked edition of Gran Turismo 5 compatible with the upcoming PS4.

Far from the first time word has spread on a potential Gran Turismo 6 release, retailers in recent weeks have starting publishing online placeholders for the upcoming game ahead of a potential release in time for the lucrative pre-Christmas shopping rush.

While series mastermind Kazunori Yamauchi openly confirmed on-going work on a Gran Turismo 6 release back in 2010, following repeated Gran Turismo 5 delays, the franchise head offered no indication as to when the next instalment to the racing sim might drop.

Speaking back in November 2010, Yamauchi answered a question on whether work had begun on Gran Turismo 6 with a simple “yeah,” adding later: “It’s not something that we can talk that lightly on. It took 2,000 days to get all the ideas that went into GT5. It’s just too early to be talking about GT6.”

Word of a potential Gran Turismo 6 launch is sure to excite many but is it in our list of best games of 2013?
