The first playable Gran Turismo 6 demo has gone live on the PlayStation Network, free to download for PS3 gamers.

Ahead of the full release in Q4 2013, Polyphony Digital is giving PS3 gamers a taste of the upcoming Gran Turismo 6 game in this playable demo.

The demo, listed as GT Academy 2013 on the PlayStation Network, is structured like a GT Academy training concept that teaches players the skills required for the fastest lap times.

Featuring one of the new Gran Turismo 6 tracks, the UK’s Silverstone Circuit, players will achieve special bonus content once they have proved their lap times are adequate.

“The GT6 demo will guide players through beginner rounds of a GT Academy-themed race camp before unlocking the final qualifying event featuring the Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit, making GT Academy equally accessible to Gran Turismo novices and experts alive,” said an official Sony spokesperson.

Vehicles available in the demo include a range of Nissan cars like the Nissan Leaf, Nissan GT-R and the Nissan 370Z.

The Gran Turismo 6 demo release marks the start of Sony’s GT Academy 2013 competition, through which gamers can race to win a position on the real-life Nissan racing team.

Players will have to submit their fastest qualifying times using the Gran Turismo 6 demo in order to get past the first round of the competition. US, Russian and German racers will be entered into their own qualifying competitions to give everyone more of a chance.

EU territories are bundled together, forcing UK gamers to race against GT6 fans from France, Italy, UK, Spain, Portugal, Benelux, the Nordics, Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia.

“The demo will remain available to play even after the competition concludes until August 31 and is open to all Gran Turismo fans, including gamers who do not wish to enter the 2013 GT Academy contest.”
