There’s a new cut-price action cam on the way, as the GoPro Hero LCD is officially introduced with integrated touchscreen controls.
Building on the current entry-level Hero, the new model adds the compact touchscreen display of the Hero4 Silver, with the LCD panel sitting on the camera’s rear.
It’s about far more than simple controls, however. Like its predecessors, the helmet-mountable GoPro Hero LCD offers impressive video capture capabilities, with the ability to record 1080p, Full HD footage at 60 frames-per-second.
For those wanting to throw the odd still image into their action cam recording, the new unit also offers an 8-megapixel photo capture mode.
As with past models, the Hero LCD features integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity modes and comes equipped with a ruggedized housing that is waterproof to 40 metres.
On the software side, the camera features a HiLight tagging mode to mark out key moments during recording or playback, and offers on-camera video trimming for on-the-fly edits.
“Hero LCD illustrates that even as we push the limits of life capture with bleeding-edge devices like the Hero4 Black, we’re also focussed on delivering accessible, high-quality capture solutions to anyone wanting to GoPro,” Nick Woodman, GoPro’s founder and CEO, said.
The camera features a two hour recording time battery life on a single charge and supports microSD cards up to 64GB in size.

The GoPro Hero LCD will hit the US on June 6 ahead of a global rollout on July 12.
Priced at $299 (£197) stateside, finalised UK pricing has yet to be confirmed.
