Google is reportedly working on a high-end smartphone with Motorola, the Google X Phone, independent of its Nexus tablet and smartphone range, due to be unveiled at the Google I/O in May.

The Google X Phone could pack top end specs to rival the eagerly anticipated Samsung Galaxy S4, especially with details of the high-end Google handset mysteriously appearing the same week as the Samsung flagship.

According to an anonymous tipster, the Google X Phone could potentially boast a 4.7-inch Full 1080p HD display, running Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie on a quad-core Tegra 4i processor.

Offering a powerful 16-megapixel camera in the rear, coupled with an impressive 5-megapixel camera front-facing for good quality video-calling, the Google X Phone could feature eye-scrolling technology akin to the S4’s Smart Scroll function.

The rumoured Google handset could measure up at a slim 7.9mm thick, but as of yet, there is no word on the battery the handset could pack, so it could have similar battery life problems as the Sony Xperia Z.

Despite its high-end innards, the Google X Phone is reported to have an affordable price tag, which should help vitalise the currently struggling Motorola brand.

The Motorola Mobility company has had to cut over 1,200 jobs in recent weeks, plus an addition 4,000 last summer, in an attempt to turn around their recent financial troubles.

If the Google X Phone launched with a price tag similar to the Google Nexus 4, and be just as popular with consumers, Motorola could find themselves on to a winner. That’s as long as Google can keep up with the demand for the rumoured handset, which it struggled to do with the Nexus 4, which meant that consumers wanting to buy the smartphone had to wait months until they could actually get one.

Would you buy the Google X Phone if it sported these leaked specs? Do you think Google would be able to offer such a handset on a modest budget? Give us your thoughts via the TrustedReviews Facebook and Twitter pages or the comment boxes below.
