Google Calendar - a threat to mums everywhere?
Not satisfied with telling us all where to go (you know what I mean), search engine monolith extraordinaire Google has also unveiled a beta calendar tool so it can tells us what to do.
Pictured above (yes, its empty I’m not showing you freaks my schedules – I’ve groupies you know!), the descriptively named ‘Google Calendar’ integrates neatly into the company’s email service and automatically offers to add the date information contained within a message into its schedule. It is a trick millions have been wishing Microsoft Outlook would do for years, but Google Calendar also goes one step further.
It has calendar profiles meaning that a single user can separate their schedules into multiple diaries, for example: one for home, one for work, one for birthdays and anniversaries, etc. Any or these calendars can then be shared with other Google users who can overlay them onto their own calendars.
If there is a downside to Google Calendar it is that the service currently doesn’t synchronise with Microsoft Outlook or any mobile devices. The good news is that Microsoft’s favourite nemesis is planning additional functionality to enable it to do this within the next few months.
Dare I say this could be a nasty wound to Microsoft Exchange? I dunno: Google try to hurt Microsoft? Sounds like crazy talk to me 😉
