Google has started offering Google Cardboard VR gear on its own store.
It sounds a little odd, but up until now you haven’t been able to buy Google Cardboard VR headsets through Google’s own online store. That’s now starting to change.
US customers will note that there’s a new Virtual Reality section on the Google Store, outlining how you can “Experience the magic of VR with your smartphone.”
Through this it’s possible to buy Google Cardboard VR headsets directly from Google, rather than from third party providers. In fact, right now US customers can pick up two Cardboard headsets for $25, which represents a $5 saving.
Besides the original Cardboard headset, the Google Store VR section also offers up the kid-friendly Mattel View-Master and the ultra-portable Goggle Tech C1-Glass VR Viewer.

UK customers? Well, it seems we have to wait, but then we grew used to that long ago.
Google is evidently stepping up its VR efforts, with reporteds that it is planning to produce a proper plastic VR headset of its own.
Indeed, 2016 looks set to be the year of VR, with the HTC Vive, the Oculus Rift, and the Microsoft HoloLens all set to hit the market.
