The much rumoured Google smartwatch is still well on track to see production, and will feature a similar user interface to that found on Google Glass.
That’s according to “sources close to Google,” who have been speaking to Android Authority. Apparently the so-called Google smartwatch now exists in physical form, and has been show off around Google’s Berlin, Manchester, and Mountain View offices.
Even more exciting is the news that is emerging concerning the Google smartphone’s usability. According to sources, “functionality will be very much like Glass.”
This tallies with reports from earlier in the month that Google had filed a smartwatch patent featuring Google Glass-like trackpads. These will apparently support scrolling and pinch-to-zoom inputs.
The same Google Glass UI sources reveal that the Google smartwatch still needs a smartphone to tether to – “it’s not a stand alone device yet” – and suggest that Motorola will be the manufacturer for the device. Hardly a surprise given that this is now effectively Google’s in-house hardware team.
It’s said that the Google smartwatch is “set for release some time soon,” but Google I/O might come a little soon for it. As we discovered yesterday, the three hour keynote address will apparently not be used for pushing many new products.
