Google search for ‘1 + sex’ is spiking, OnePlus X to blame

Despite significant advancements in speech recognition, computers still get it wrong some of the time.

That’s evidenced by a sudden spike in people searching for the phrase “1 + sex”.

It turns out that people aren’t actually Googling for cheeky flings; not using that phrase anyway…

It’s seemingly thanks to the launch of the OnePlus X, a brand new mid-range smartphone that launched just last month.

Although we can’t say for sure, it appears likely that the Google Now voice search function is mishearing people saying OnePlus X.

We tested the function out, and sure enough, we got this:

Interestingly, most of the search is coming from eastern nations like Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Vietnam, Pakistan, and India.
