Google’s Music Key to close months before global YouTube Red launch

If you’re a big fan of YouTube’s Music Key service, we’ve got some bad news for you…

The ad-free music streaming platform is due to shut down next month, leaving non-US users out in the cold.

As of November 30, the shutters will finally be brought down upon Music Key, just one year after launch – as reported by TheNextWeb.

It’s a move that makes sense in the US; the new YouTube Red service will offer the same service, but with added perks.

However, outside of the US, YouTube Red won’t have launched, which means users in the UK, for instance, will no longer have access to ad-free music through YouTube.

Music Key offered audio streaming and offline listening for $7.99 each month, and also gave users access to Google Play Music.

It’s worth noting that users will still be able to access Google Play Music.

Don’t forget that YouTube Red will also combine its services with Google Play Music, although you’ll be forking out $10 a month for the luxury.

However, other benefits include ad-free videos across the entire site, as well as exclusive and original content scheduled for 2016.

YouTube Red will launch in the US on October 28, but it won’t arrive in other markets until next year.
