Google releases Inbox for iPad

by

Inbox

Google has launched an iPad version of Inbox, its smart email alternative.

Inbox was launched towards the end of October last year on Android, iPhone, and Chrome. It wasn't optimised for Apple's tablet at the time, however.

That's changed with a quietly launched iPad version of Inbox. It features a properly optimised view that takes advantage of the iPad's extra screen space in much the same way as the equivalent Gmail app.

Inbox itself is still an invite-only service. It offers a new way to deal with email that doesn't simply involve scrolling through masses of generic messages.

Rather, it intelligently sorts incoming emails into categories, called Bundles. It also provides Highlights, which push attachment thumbnails and key details to the preview pane, so you can assimilate the gist of emails without having to enter them individually.

This is an area of the app that would definitely be enhanced by iPad optimisation.

Assists, meanwhile, will figure out what an email is telling you and provide contextual information - a telephone number or a map for a restaurant reservation, for example. Inbox also has a personal assistant element to it, so you can set and receive reminders through the app.

Inbox for iPad is availabile to download for free from the App Store now. If you're interested in securing yourself an Inbox invite, email Google at inbox@google.com and ask for one.
