Google has issued a host of improvements for Google Plus profile pages, including larger cover photos and a new tab dedicated to local reviews.
In a post on her own Google Plus page, product manager Sara McKinley explained that the company had listened to the feedback of its users when integrating the changes, which are rolling out gradually.
The most visible enhancement is, naturally, the larger cover photos, which now have a resolution of 2120px by 1192px and will appear in 16:9 aspect ratio. This, according to McKinley will mean "more images can be used as cover photos, and there’s more room for your selection to shine."
There's also the option to place a new local reviews tab on the right hand side of the profile page, featuring a map and details of the places, bars, restaurants, museums (and what-not) that you may have reviewed on your travels.
McKinley said: "In addition to your photos, Plus 1's and YouTube videos, there's now a place for all your Local reviews. Highlight your favourite restaurants, or hide the tab completely via settings - it's completely up to you."
There's also a new "About" tab that makes all of your information easier to edit in one place. This feature appears to be somewhat reminiscent of cards in Google Now, but these feature your work, education, people and basic information.
She explained: "The 'About' tab now consists of separate cards (like Story, Places, and Links) -- each with its own prominent edit link. As always: you can share specific fields with specific circles, or keep them just for you."
The updates seem to have been strategically timed to preface Facebook's Thursday media event, during which the social network plans to explain new changes to its news feed.
Facebook is predicted to unveil a new landing page that gives users the opportunity to filter the news most important them, while also debuting dedicated feeds for Facebook photos, Instagram photos and a revamped Music feed.
Larger images and image-based ads are also set to be announced, according to pre-event reports.
