Google is almost ready to unveil its standalone Photos service, according to a new report.
Back at the beginning of March Google confirmed previous comments and rumoured that it would be splitting up its lumbering Google+ social network service into separate parts.
Of particular interest would be its standalone Photos service, with Google+’s handling of images its undoubted strong point.
Now, according to Bloomberg, Google is almost ready to unveil this Photos service. As such, it will probably be announced at Google I/O in just over a week’s time.
In separating itself from Google+, the report says, Google Photos users will be able to more easily share their photos onto Facebook and Twitter.
Google Photos should be an appealing standalone service once it rids itself of the company’s failed social network. It allows for unlimited photo uploading, with images not taking up any of your Google Drive storage as long as they’re smaller than 2048 x 2048. It’s the same with videos shorter than 15 minutes long.

Another great feature is Google’s auto-enhance feature, which can be set to improve your snaps without any tweaking. It will also automatically stitch multiple consecutive shots into animated GIFs for you.
Google I/O takes place on May 28 and 29, and should see the launch of the new Android OS (Android M), as well as more on Android TV and the company’s wearable plans.
