Google outs new refined logo, reveals new app launcher

Google has shown off a new version of its company logo, with flatter, slightly redesigned lettering and a “refined” colour palette.

In a post on its official blog, Google’s Eddie Kessler said the new logo will be rolling out across Google products over the next few weeks.

While that news is hardly a ‘Stop Press’ affair, the company has also launched a new navigation bar, making it easier for users to switch between Google’s various apps and services.

The new Google bar, which dispenses of the unpopular black bar across the top of the screen, places Google Search, YouTube, Maps, Play, Gmail, Drive and more in an Apps grid on the right side of the screen.

The App Grid will appear within the Google apps on the web, and is already available on Android devices and on Chromebooks.

Kessler wrote: “Regardless of your routine, getting around Google should be seamless, and once you’re inside an app, you don’t want any distractions. So we’re introducing an updated Google bar that streamlines your experience across products and devices.

“Your Google products are now accessible under a new app launcher, located at the top right of the screen. Just click on the familiar ‘Apps’ grid, also present on Android devices and Chromebooks.”
