Google Now gets integration with 40 third-party apps

Google has announced it is bringing Google Now integration to a host of the top third-party apps.

Until now, Google Now has brought custom knowledge from Google’s in-house services, but now it’ll pull in information from 40 different apps. Details from apps like The Guardian, Pandora, Airbnb and Lyft will now appear as Google Now cards.

The company wrote (via Engadget): “Starting today, the Google app on Android can help you keep up with all the good stuff in 40 different apps  at a glance—it’ll bring you Now cards to help you out with your day-to-day life, giving you information that’s helpful to you, right when you need it.”

Google is telling users they have the latest version of the Google app installed on their phones in order to take advantage of the new features.

Elsewhere, Google has confirmed the 3D-sensing Project Tango tablet and smartphone has moved from the company’s Advanced Technology and Projects department to become a part of Google’s main roster.

The prototype devices use a range of sensors in order to build a 3D map of any room.

Just like the recent Google Glass move, Google hasn’t announced what this means for the project going forward but claimed the platform will “continue to evolve.”

Project Tango

On the Google ATAP page, the firm wrote: “ATAP’s innovation strategy is characterized by ambitious goals, time limits, and temporary project teams.  So, after two fast-paced years in ATAP, and many technical successes, the Tango team is transitioning from ATAP to a new home within Google.

“We’re excited about the continued commitment to developing the technology for our users  — we wish our fellow pirates fair winds and following seas.”
