Google Nexus 8 possibly leaked by Google

Google may well have just leaked a new Nexus 9 tablet. But is it the real deal?

On the website set up to promote the next Google I/O event, which takes place on June 25 and June 26, we see a picture of a mysterious new compact tablet.

The device seems to be playing Google’s experimental Racer game, but it’s what’s outside the display that’s creating a bit of a stir.

The device has rounded corners that set it apart from the current Google Nexus 7, for one thing. It’s closer in appearance to the ageing Google Nexus 10, but it simply isn’t as big as that device.

Also, at the very bottom of the device we catch a glimpse of a front-facing speaker grill. That’s another feature that’s reminiscent of the Nexus 10.

So, is this the forthcoming Nexus 9? Or has Google simply manipulated an image of the Nexus 10 to create the impression of a generic tablet?

It’s worth noting that Google has manipulated such images before. Back in November, similar rumours emerged surrounding an official Google picture of a lady holding a previously unseen tablet.

Google responded to those rumours by swapping the device out for the familiar Nexus 7, and nothing has been seen of that tablet design in the six months since.

So while we’d love to think that we’ve caught a glimpse of the new Nexus 9 tablet, we’re staying skeptical and putting it down to a spot of Google Photoshopping for now. Probably.
