Huawei wants to build Google’s next Nexus 7 tablet, apparently

The Nexus 7 is fondly remembered as one of the most beloved tablets of all time; how about a new one?

Google has started work on the 2016 Google Nexus 7 project, a new report reveals.

What’s more, it’s tipped that Huawei is vying for the position of manufacturer for the tablet.

The report comes courtesy of social media site Weibo, which is based in Huawei’s homeland of China.

It wouldn’t be the first time Huawei and Google have partnered on a device; the firms jointly launched the Nexus 6P smartphone earlier this year.

However, Google has kept quiet on the matter of a new Nexus tablet, so take this report with a pinch of salt.

It’s worth noting that the company’s most recent slate – the Nexus 9 – was tepidly received by critics.

Huawei’s most recent tablets were the MediaPad M2 and X2.

Neither were critically acclaimed, but Huawei could win the Nexus deal off the back of the Nexus 6P’s success alone.

The original Nexus 7 tablets – 2012 and 2013 – were both built by Asus, while the Nexus 9 was designed by HTC.
