Google Nexus 7 Suffers From Screen Problems?

Google Nexus 7 tablet screen issues

In case you hadn’t noticed, we love the Google Nexus 7. It’s pretty much the best budget tablet around, and even one of the best 7in tablets full stop, so it’s no surprise we gave it 9/10.

However, as is so often the case with completely new devices, there appear to be a few teething issues. The iPad had odd colours on its screen, the Transformer Prime had wireless reception problems – it’s nothing unusual. Yet the Nexus 7’s troubles seem to be a wee bit more serious than off tones or poor signals. Apparently, its screen has bugs that range from deceased pixels to wonky gluing of the glass top sheet.

One user reports: “So, i purchased 2 Nexus 7s at GS yesterday. Both of them had dead pixels, 4 and 7. In addition, on both of them, the glass is elevated about 1mm on the left side […] I can push down the left side, and the adhesive takes hold for about 10 minutes or so, but eventually, the glass lifts up again.

Oh dear. Mind you, even severe cases like this are by no means uncommon on tablets costing many times more – yes we’re looking at you, Samsung Series 7 Slate.

Hopefully the departed pixels and its glass coming unstuck will only affect a few Google Nexus 7 samples, and the rest will find happy owners. We’ve certainly seen nothing like it on our review sample, which was actually purchased from a shop rather than provided by Asus/Google.

Have you been finding reason to grumble on your Nexus 7? Let us know in the comments.
