LG Optimus G2 or Google Nexus 5?

A picture of an unknown handset have leaked online and several sources are speculating that it is the Google Nexus 5 or LG Optimus G2.

The picture came courtesy of fairly trustworthy and abundant source of smartphone news, @evleaks. It depicts a smartphone lacking any buttons on the front, potentially only using Google’s on-screen buttons to navigate the handset’s functions.

As with LG’s current LG Optimus G Pro smartphone, the leaked handset has a very slim bezel around the outside of the screen.

Also showcasing a redesigned earpiece, the potential Google Nexus 5 release date could be in October if Google’s current one year release cycle is upheld.

Widely tipped to make an appearance at the Google I/O 2013 as an upgrade to the Google Nexus 4, the Google Nexus 5 could have a 5.2-inch OLED display with Full 1920 x 1080p HD resolutions.

Playing host to a 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor, the Google Nexus 5 could have a 16-megapixel camera in the rear capable of shooting 1080p Full HD video alongside a 2.1-megapixel snapper up front.

However, if this handset isn’t the Google Nexus 5 it could well be LG’s next flagship, the LG Optimus G2.

Speaking to LG’s Head of Mobiel Communication for Europe, Won Kim, TrustedReviews discovered “the LG Optimus G2 is coming in Q3”.

“We don’t want to hide everything but similarly we don’t want to promote everything about the G2 in advance,” said Kim. “G2 is going to be something different, something unique and we have needed to be very creative.”

According to leaks last month, the LG Optimus G2 is so thin it cannot support the traditional smartphone buttons, which would seemingly support the idea that the new leaked pictures are of the LG Optimus G2.

Rumours suggest the super-slim device would have a 5-inch Full HD 1080p display powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 CPU. Running Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, the LG Optimus G2 could also pack a 13-megapixel rear camera.
