Google Nexus 10 2014 edition launch could be imminent

A new tip from the Google Play Store itself suggests a Google Nexus 10 2014 device could launch soon.

The original Google Nexus 10 was released in November 2012 around the same time as the original Nexus 7, which has since been given a 2013 refresh.

The Nexus 10 is still the same model as was originally released, but a new Google Play Store tip could mean a launch is imminent.

Android Community spotted the 16GB version of the Nexus 10 has been listed as “unavailable” for quite some time, but has now been changed to “coming soon”.

Despite the 32GB model still being available to purchase, the change in availability status for the most popular 16GB version will spark rumours of an incoming refresh.

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard a Google Nexus 10 rumour or two, especially as the device was originally tipped to launch at CES 2014 in January.

It is expected to launch with a 10.1-inch WQXGA 2560 x 1600p display, which would equate to a 289.9ppi image density.

This would match the display offered by the current Nexus 10, but it is tipped to make the upgrade from Gorilla Glass 2 to Gorilla Glass 3.

Leaked specs suggest it will run on a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor with 3GB of RAM. Previously the 10.1-inch slate featured a dual-core Samsung Exynos 5 processor with 2GB of RAM.

However, it most likely change from a Samsung processor because Google is tipped to use Asus or even LG as the manufacturer for the 2014 model.

The standard model is expected to come with 32GB of internal storage and run on a 9,500mAh battery.

Google should shave some millimetres off the original model as according to a previous leak it will measure up at 258.9 x 172.6 x 7.9mm and weigh 584g.

Compare this to the 263.9 x 177.6 x 8.9mm, 603g current model and there’s quite a difference.
