Google has issued an update for Google Maps on iOS that will help those navigating at night.
Ever since the disastrous launch of Apple Maps in 2012, and the subsequent launch of a stand-alone iOS Google Maps app, millions of iPhone users have relied on Google's peerless solution for their navigation needs.
As a result, it's perhaps more noteworthy when Google Maps for iOS receives an update than other apps.
The latest Google Maps iOS update, then, brings some handy additions. Chief among those is a Night mode, which swaps the glare of the usual white accents for darker hues. The idea is to avoid dazzling drivers navigating at night.
Other additions include the ability to label places to see them on your map and in search suggestions, as well as the ability to edit your posted photo captions. Add in the usual bug fixes, and you have yourself a fairly chunky Google Maps update.

That's not to say that Apple isn't striving to catch up. Back in June, we reported that Apple was emulating Google's still-impressive Street View by sending a fleet of image-capturing cars around the world (including the UK and Ireland) for future Apple Maps updates.
