Google has just announced the introduction of 360-degree video advertisements for YouTube.
This means you can now scroll up, down, left, or right in certain compatible video ads to change the perspective.
The new ad format also works with Google’s Cardboard VR headset, which means the only thing you need to change perspective is the movement of your head.
The new video ads are available starting today, and will work with Chrome, as well as the YouTube app for Android and iOS.
“Video is already the most effective medium for connecting with consumers thanks to the power of sight, sound and motion,” a Google blog post explains.
It continues: “But what if there were a way to let people become even more immersed in your video ads? To help advertisers deliver richer experiences, we’re introducing 360 degree video ads on YouTube.”
If you want to create your own 360-degree video ads, Google says you’ll need access to one of the following 360-degrees cameras: the Ricoh Theta, Kodak SP360, Giroptic 360cam, or the IC Real Tech Allie.

It’s worth noting that 360-degree video isn’t new to YouTube, but this is the first time we’ve seen the format used for advertisements.
Google says the first advertiser to launch the 360 ads in the US is Bud Light – UK ads are yet to be confirmed.
