Google has updated its Google Glass hardware just in time for its UK release date.
The slightly upgraded version of Glass brings a host of new features to the augmented reality headset, including an easily accessible camera viewfinder.
If you use the voice command “OK Glass, show the viewfinder”, you’ll now be presented with four white L’s in the four corners of the heads-up display.
From there, you can take a photo by winking or pushing the camera button on the side of Google Glass.
There are also two new Google Now cards to take advantage of with Glass. The first will remind you where you parked your car, which could come in handy in packed car parks, and the second will “let you know when packages are coming your way”. We’re assuming this ties in with couriers or other delivery services or is tied to your emails.
Google has also doubled the RAM from the previous 1GB offering to 2GB. Sadly, it doesn’t look like the previous model can be upgraded and Google hasn’t clarified whether the new features will work on the old model as yet.
However, the search engine giant is probably waiting until its Google I/O keynote later this evening to shed some more light on Glass and the other announcements up its sleeves.
Sundar Pichai, Google Senior VP and Android Head, confirmed that Google will use the I/O keynote tonight, June 25, to reveal the new Android operating system.
“I want the world to understand what we are doing sooner,” said Pichai, when confirming the next Android would be announced later today.
Most expect the new Android operating system to be named after a confectionary treat beginning with L, possibly lollipops.
Google will also give some more information on its Android Wear operating system that is specifically built for wearables, starting with smartwatches.
