Google Now is one of the best apps to help you start your day off right. You can, among other things, see the weather, traffic conditions, upcoming appointments and a snapshot of the news before your head is off the pillow.

Now one Google employee has developed a way to view some (and soon to be all) of this info without even looking at your mobile device.

Max Braun has developed a smart mirror “more like the future we were promised in the movies” and posted the project on the Medium blog.

Braun bought a two way mirror, added a display panel, a controller board, some off the shelf components and arts and craft supplies and concocted a solution that shows updates while he brushes his teeth.

With the aid of an Amazon Fire Stick and a prototype UI based on a “few hundred lines of code,” the panel shows the time, date, weather forecast, as well as news headlines from services he follows. That’s possible by bringing in the information from Android APIs like Forecast and the Associated Press.

He also plans to introduce traffic, reminders “and essentially anything with a Google Now card.”

All information updates automatically, so requires no interaction and for any information that requires searching for Braun has built in voice search.

The maker says he’s continuing to work on the project, including tidying up the electronics on the back of the cabinet door.

Let’s home he keeps up the good work and encourages his bosses to jump on board because we would buy the living daylights out of this homemade smart home marvel.
