Google has updated its Google Drive cloud storage app for Mac and PC, adding several handy new features.
Last month, Google updated its Google Drive mobile apps with powerful new features, like added search functions and wider file support on iOS.
Now it’s the turn of the desktop apps, as announced on Google+.
The main new feature of Google’s desktop cloud storage solution is a genuinely useful drop-down menu. It now provides updates on uploads as they sync, and lets you open recently synced files.
There’s also an instant Share button associated to these recently synced files, allowing you to distribute the file quickly and easily direct from the menu.
Another neat new feature is the ability to control the bandwidth used by Google Drive. This is handy for those occasions where you have a more pressing and demanding usage of the internet in mind (such as HD video or music streaming) and only a limited connection through which to do so. On such occasions, you don’t want your latest photo uploads clogging things up.
Simply head into the Advanced section of the Preferences menu, and you’ll be able to limit the download and upload rate in single KB/sec increments, if you so wish.

Besides all this, the new drop-down menu simply looks much tidier than before, with file retrieval and manipulation places front and centre, and everything else tucked away in a sub-menu.
Google is rolling out this latest Google Drive update over the coming days.
