Google combines free Gmail, Drive and Google+ photo storage into 15GB bundle

Google has bundled up the free storage it offers users of its Gmail, Google Drive and Google Plus services into one big chunk.

From now, instead of having a 10GB Gmail locker and 5GB combined for Google Drive and Google Plus photos, users now have 15GB of storage to use as they see fit.

In a post on the Google Drive blog the company said it will give users the flexibility to choose how they fill the available storage rather than be confined by limits for each one.

The blog post read: “With this new combined storage space, you won’t have to worry about how much you’re storing and where.

“For example, maybe you’re a heavy Gmail user but light on photos, or perhaps you were bumping up against your Drive storage limit but were only using 2 GB in Gmail. Now it doesn’t matter, because you can use your storage the way you want.”

Google said it also plans to update its Google Drive storage page, allowing users to get a better idea of what they’ve used and what they have left.

“Simply hover over the pie chart to see a breakdown of your storage use across Drive, Gmail, and Google Photos. And if you need more storage, this is your place to upgrade, with plans starting at $4.99/month for 100 GB.”

The changes will roll out over the next couple of months, the company said.
