Google has announced the acquisition of Timeful, a popular iOS app that helps users fit items on their to-do lists into their busy schedules.
The app will eventually be plugged into existing Google services like Gmail, Inbox and Calendar in a bid to assist patrons' productivity.
It works by learning the user’s “schedules, habits and needs” and then pinpointing times when they can get things done beyond those set-in-stone work projects, meetings, dentists appointments, kids activities and more.
So, for example, if you need to call your bank or go shopping for a gift before the weekend, you can give that information to Timeful and it’ll find a moment amid the chaos for you to get it done.
According to Google the “system will get it done based on an understanding of both your schedule and your priorities” so the stuff you continually put off will have an allotted slot rather than allowing you to leave it to the last minute.
On the Gmail blog, the company wrote: “Even as [apps] have simplified our lives, we’re still inundated with too many updates, information and everyday tasks. And we still have to do a lot of logistical work ourselves—like deciding to what time exactly we should snooze that Reminder in order to get it done in time for Mom’s birthday, or figuring out when to work on that presentation so that it’s ready for next week’s sales pitch.”
Google says it plans to integrate Timeful’s technology across a range of products, but there’s no word yet on when it’ll start appearing within Gmail, Inbox and beyond.
Despite the acquisition, the existing app isn’t going away, at least for now, with Timeful stating: “You can continue to download and use the Timeful app, but moving forward the team's attention will be on new projects at Google.”
