Last year was the year of Chatroulette, Justin Bieber and World Cup 2010 but this year has been dominated by the Royal Wedding, Zumba and trying to solve the eternal question: What is Scampii?
Yes it’s that time of year again when Google releases its annual Zeitgeist list which is a look back at the most popular terms of the year. Google details the fastest rising search terms, the most popular “what is” and “how to” terms and the more embarrassingly the fastest falling people – among many others.
In the UK, naturally the Royal Wedding was the fastest rising search term, followed by the iPhone 5, FIFA 12, Groupon and iPad 2 and Minecraft showing just how much new technology is at the forefront of people’s thoughts.
Looking at consumer electronics around the world, the biggest search term was the Amazon Kindle Fire followed by iPhone 4S, the now defunct HP Touchpad, the iPad 2 and the HTC Sensation.
One of the most interesting lists is the “what is” which details the things people want to know more about. Topping this list is “What is AV?” followed closely by “What is Scampii?” and “What is Piles?” – clearly showing that Google is being used to answer all the most thought provoking and life-changing questions on peoples’ minds.
We’ve included a couple of the lists below for your perusal, so do let us know if the lists reflect what you have been searching for in 2011.
