Just one week after its release, the iPhone 5S has been upgraded by Gold & Co. with limited edition 24 carat gold, rose gold and platinum finishes.

The company, which specialises in embellishing electronic products, has produced 750 individually numbered phones with precious metal-plated backs.

They're launching today with an official unveiling at the World Luxury Expo at Emirates Palace Abu Dhabi.

"We strip the units down and then plate them in copper, nickel and then pure gold,” Amjad Ali, owner of Gold & Co., told The Independent. “We have limited units per region and each is numbered and placed in a handmade wooden box with a certificate of authenticity and wax seal.”

Gold & Co. has previouly made luxury versions of the Blackberry Q10, the iPad 4 and the Sony Xperia Z.

Its gold-plated take on the cheaper iPhone 5 sold for $5000 so it's thought these devices will sell for even more.

Beneath the 24ct finish, the handset is a standard iPhone 5S which usually costs £549. Apple's basic iPhone 5S colours have seen the aluminium bodied handset come in grey, white and gold as standard.

With the same design as the iPhone 5, the iPhone 5S specs sheet sees a 64-bit processor line up alongside a 4-inch Retina display, new Touch ID fingerprint unlocking and an 8-megapixel rear-mounted camera.
