The gold iPhone 5S case has been put under the knife in a new scratch test video, comparing it to the current black iPhone 5 model.

Testing the durability of the gold iPhone 5S case, the video shows how it holds up against a barrage of coins and then a knife.

With the coins, the gold iPhone 5S faired a lot better than the black iPhone 5, which showed the silver beneath the black veneer. The gold iPhone 5S showed barely any scratch marks when pelted with coins, as it might well be in the average pocket.

However, when it comes to the knife, the scratches were much more visible on the gold iPhone 5S. The long marks and deep scratches are more noticeable on the gold iPhone 5S after the knife attack because of the colour, but the chips in the paint still show up more on the black iPhone 5.

It seems that Apple hasn’t done much to improve the durability of the metal casing on the iPhone 5S, even after user complaints with the iPhone 5.

iPhone 5S Rumours
Expected to launch alongside the budget iPhone 5C on September 10, the iPhone 5S is rumoured to be 31 per cent faster than the iPhone 5 with a new A7 processor.

It may well feature a convex home button made from toughened Sapphire crystal incorporating a fingerprint scanner into the device.

As is visible in the scratch test video, the iPhone 5S should gain a 13-megapixel camera in the rear with a dual-LED flash and f/2.0 lens, potentially rivalling the Samsung Galaxy S4 in terms of camera specs.

The battery should be increased to a 5.92Whr unit, above the iPhone 5’s 5.45Whr battery. This doesn’t sound like much, but the iPhone 5S is tipped to pack a IGZO display from Sharp, which, when combined will mean a much longer battery life in the next iPhone.
