Gold iPads rumoured for launch this month

Apple is set to launch its first gold-coloured iPads this month, according to a new report.

It’s widely expected that Apple will hold an event to launch its new iPad range some time in October.

Now Bloomberg has added an extra piece of information to the mix. Apparently, Apple will add gold as a choice of colour for the rear cover, alongside the usual grey and silver. As before, the front section will come in white or black.

This will match the colour options available for the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, and iPhone 5S.

The report claims that this new colour will be Apple’s attempt to boost flagging sales of its iPad range – a common tactic from the company. Sales of its tablets have dropped over the last two quarters after a bumper 2013, which generated a whopping $32 billion.

Of course, the launch of the 5.5-inch iPad 6 Plus ‘phablet’ probably won’t help its tablet range’s cause.

Also, the report has something to say about the much-rumours 12.9-inch iPad Pro. It adds to suggestions that the new form factor won’t be available until next year.

It’s been suggested elsewhere that only the iPad Air 2 will actually be available before Christmas, with a new iPad mini also set to slip until the new year.
