Gmail for Android finally gets a unified inbox

Google has issued an update for its Gmail for Android app, introducing what is sure to be the most requested feature; combined inboxes.

Gmail users rocking Android devices can now switch to an “All Inboxes” view, rather than switching between the multiple email accounts they may have synced to their phone or tablet.

“Starting today you’ll be able to view all your mail at once, regardless of which account it’s from, using the new “All Inboxes” option,” Google explained. “This way you can read and respond to all your messages without having to hop between accounts.”

Alongside the unified inboxes, Google is also making a few minor additions to the client.

Users will benefit from improved auto-complete when searching within the app, while the company has also introduced support for conversation view for third party accounts such as Yahoo and Outlook. There’s also one-tap sharing to Google Drive.

The updates are available on Android from today, while Google is likely to bring them to iOS sooner rather than later.

Elsewhere, Google has updated its Google Drive platform in order to integrate photos shared to the floundering Google Plus social platform.

“Google Plus Photos will of course keep helping you store, edit and share your pics. But if you want to organize all your files, all in one place, Drive is here to help. You’ll start seeing your photos in Drive today – immediately if they’re new, and a few weeks for your entire library,” the company wrote.
