Giphy has rolled out a long-awaited update to its iOS app today.
The new Giphy app now lets users find and share GIFs to a host of third-party services.
Previously, Giphy was only able to share GIFs via the Facebook Messenger app, which was a confusing limitation.
The app first launched back in March, and was linked to Messenger right from the start.
As a result of this close linking to Messenger, the app now has “tens of millions” of users, as reported by TechCrunch.
“We saw amazing engagement and adoption of our standalone app,” says Adam Leibsohn, Giphy COO, as quoted in the TC article.
Leibsohn continues: “People were using it in clever ways to put GIFs in more places. It just made sense for us to build this out.”
He adds: “We want to help people put GIFs in the places they want to use them most: social networks, messengers, text messages, emails, etc. So a search and sharing app makes sense.”
But wait, cry Android users, what about us? Unfortunately the new update has not been applied to the Android version of Giphy.
However, it has been confirmed that an Android version of the update is currently in development.
