Gi FlyBike is a folding electric smart bike

There are plenty of smart add-ons for bikes that give your ride connected skills, but what if you want a bike that’s smart from the get-go? Say hello to the Gi FlyBike.

It’s fully connected out of the box. Using the app on your smartphone, you can lock the bike, share an unlock code with a friend so they can take it for a spin, and turn the lights on and off.

Plug your phone into it, and it’ll even charge it using pedal power.

You’ll find it easier to ride than most bikes. That’s because, as Doc Brown would say, this sucker’s electrical. Each time you pedal, you’re assisted by an electric engine that’ll last 37 miles on a single charge. Which should come in handy come those tricky hill climbs.

There are three levels of assistance, and it has a top speed of 15mph.

It folds in half in just one second too, which is impressive for a full-size bike. It won’t be small enough to park in the pub like a Brompton, but it will make it much easier to store at home. The mechanism looks similar to that found on Tern’s awesome bikes.

It even has its own panel where you can park your phone and use it as a satnav.

It’s just hit Kickstarter, and wants to raise $75,000. It will sell for an early bird price of $1,990 (£1,309) or a full price of $2,490 (£1,639) in the summer.
