Garmin has added to its range of popular GPS smartwatches with the launch of the Forerunner 920XT.
The wearable fitness tracker arrives to succeed the highly-rated Forerunner 910XT sportswatch. It is 15 per cent lighter and 18 per cent thinner than its predecessor and packs in an attractive full-colour, customisable screen.
The Forerunner 920XT is primarily aimed at triathletes and has the ability to track swims, runs, bike rides. For cyclists the 920XT can be mounted on handlebars allowing wearers to use it as a standalone cycling computer to track power, heartrate, speed and distance.
Runners can pair it with a heart-rate monitor, establish a standard pace, use the metronome for cadence training and predict race times thanks to a VO2 Max calculator. Ultra runners can switch to an UtraTrack mode offering a purported 40 hour battery life in GPS mode.
As well as all of those sport specific actions, the Forerunner 920XT now acts as an activity tracker too, in the vein of Garmin’s Vevofit wearable device, allowing users to set movement goals.
Beyond fitness, the wrist watch will also incorporate notifications from the users smartphone via Bluetooth connectivity. It’ll alert the user to incoming texts, emails, calls and calendar reminders.
As well as Bluetooth, the Forerunner 920XT has its own Wi-Fi connection allowing all of the data to be synced wirelessly to the users Garmin Connect platform.
The new watch will be out in blue/black and red/white colours and will cost $449 (around £277). All in all it sounds like the most comprehensive connected wearable ever.
