Gareth Bale to remain FIFA 14 cover star confirms EA

Gareth Bale will remain the FIFA 14 cover star in the UK publisher EA has confirmed, despite the striker’s recently confirmed move to Spanish giants Real Madrid.

With Gareth Bale unveiled earlier in the summer as the cover star of FIFA 14 alongside Barcelona’s Lionel Messi, EA has stated that the former Tottenham Hotspur player will remain as the star of the game despite being shown on the box in his old team’s garb.

Speaking with MCV, an official EA spokesperson has stated: “Gareth Bale remains the FIFA 14 UK cover star alongside Lionel Messi. In light of his recent transfer we are working closely with his management and we will have an update soon.”

One of the summer’s bit football talking points, Bale yesterday secured his much anticipated move from Tottenham to Real Madrid after a world record £85 million fee was agreed between the two teams.

With a FIFA 14 release date confirmed for September 27 on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, the latest instalment to the much loved football sim will also be made available for both the next-gen Xbox One and PS4 in November.

What’s more, all Xbox One pre-orders will come bundled with a free copy of FIFA 14, a deal which goes some way to making up the £80 price difference between it and the PS4.

Speaking at his unveiling as the FIFA 14 cover star back in July, Bale stated: “The players on the front cover since I was a kid have obviously been legends of the game.” He added: “It’s a great honour for me and I’m very proud of it.”

More than simply the game’s cover star, Bale, who will now be digitally redressed in a Madrid kit has been captured by 58 Vicon motion capture cameras in order to be digitally remastered in the game with added realism.

As well as recording the Welshman performing a series of passing, dribbling and shooting drills, the bank of precise, motion mapping cameras have also captured his trademark dipping free kicks and resulting celebrations.
