Nvidia believes gaming is the “next frontier” that will be transformed by cloud streaming services.
Cloud streaming will transform the gaming industry in the near future and it looks like Nvidia is right behind the wave.
Nvidia launched the Android TV console Nvidia Shield at GDC 2015 fully kitted out with its own Nvidia Grid game streaming service.
Nvidia Grid allows Shield owners (that includes Shield Portable and Nvidia Shield Tablet users) to stream full 1080p HD games from the cloud, providing instant access to full PC titles without the install time.
“There’s still going to be the core gamers who love their gameplay, and our GTX gamers are still going to play on PC and love PC gaming. But for the living room, a lot of people want to sit back and relax in the living room. And we feel, like Netflix has done for movies, we can bring access to gaming to the living room and make it available to a much wider audience”, explained Chris Daniel, Senior Product Manager for Shield, in an interview with TrustedReviews.
But, that doesn’t mean it wants to be the only player in the game streaming service. Instead, it sees gaming as the next market to be overtaken by streaming.
“Instant access, easier to use. It’s the streaming model that people have come to love with music with Spotify and Netflix with movies where you just sit down and instantly click what you want and it’s steaming. That kind of convenience, gaming is really the next frontier for that kind of cloud streaming.”

At the moment you’ve only got OnLive, Nvidia Grid and Sony’s PlayStation Now in the game streaming space and all three have their limitations.
It’ll will be interesting to see what becomes the Netflix or Amazon Prime Instant Video of the gaming industry in the future.
